EmpowerKids–South Sudan (EKSS) is a national non-governmental organization working in education, conservation agriculture, youth empowerment, and advocacy and civic engagement. We were founded in 2014 and are based in Juba, Central Equatoria State.

Yes. EKSS is registered with the Relief and Rehabilitation Commission (RRC) under Registration No. 169, in accordance with the NGO Act 2016. Our Certificate of Registration is available for download on our Resources page.

Our office is in Gudele West, Block 4, Juba County, and our Juba Demonstration Farm is at Juba 2, Gumbo-Sherikat Area. Our farmer training reaches communities including Biliny, Bajur, Dumandang in Mangala Payam, Juba County, Central Equatoria State, and our youth programs have reached participants across three states.

EKSS is a South Sudanese organization, founded and led by South Sudanese. We work with international partners, but our staff, our governance, and our accountability are national, with international partners in the Advisory Committee.

Education — school partnerships, teacher training, learning resources and scholarship pathways to universities abroad. Conservation Agriculture (Empower Farmers South Sudan)—climate-smart farming training on the Foundations for Farming model, taught at our demonstration farm. Youth Empowerment—entrepreneurship, leadership, and life skills, plus platforms where young people’s views reach a national audience. Advocacy and Civic Engagement—strengthening community voice and participation in local decision-making.

To date: 37 students placed on fully funded university scholarships through our Bridge2Rwanda partnership; 129 smallholder farmers and interns trained in conservation agriculture; 15 secondary school teachers trained at Arizona State University; and two schools fitted with solar electricity. Every figure is drawn from our program monitoring records, and the source of verification for each is published in our Results Ledger.

Scholarship placements are made through our partnership with Bridge2Rwanda, which runs its own selection process and timelines.

It is a farming approach that improves yields while protecting the soil, minimal soil disturbance, permanent ground cover, careful timing, and precise planting. We teach the Foundations for Farming model at our demonstration farm, where trainees practice the techniques directly. Our 2025 season produced 472.44 kg of maize from 0.132 hectares.

EKSS is governed by a Board of Directors, which provides strategic direction and fiduciary oversight, supported by an Advisory Committee providing technical guidance. Day-to-day management is led by the Executive Director, Hakim Monykuer Awuok.

Yes. Our Resources page carries our Certificate of Registration, Constitution, safeguarding and anti-fraud policies, annual reports, and strategic documents. We maintain a controlled policy register covering our full policy suite; documents not published online are supplied to funders and partners on written request to info@ekss.org.

Each figure we publish carries the program it belongs to and the record it comes from, training attendance registers, harvest logs, partner placement records, and installation handover notes. Funders and evaluators may request the underlying monitoring data at any time.

Yes. We maintain a Safeguarding and PSEAH (Protection from Sexual Exploitation, Abuse and Harassment) policy that applies to all staff, volunteers, and partners. It is available on our Resources page.

Your donation supports our education, agriculture, youth, and civic engagement programs. We report on how we use funds in our annual report, published on this site each year.

For donors in the United States, yes, through CAF America. For donors elsewhere, deductibility depends on your national rules; contact us and we will provide whatever documentation your tax authority requires.

Not at present. We do not currently have the capacity to host, supervise and support volunteers properly, and we would rather say so than accept people we cannot make good use of. If that changes, we will say so here. In the meantime, if you have a skill you think would help our work, write to info@ekss.org and tell us what you do; we will keep your details on file.

We work with schools, government institutions, technical partners, and funders.
