Our Impact

Together with our partners and communities, EmpowerKids-South Sudan has already contributed to significant, tangible change in the lives of children, youth, and families across South Sudan.

In partnership with Days for Girls International, we have distributed over 2,000 reusable sanitary kits to female learners in primary and secondary schools, along with comprehensive hygiene training, improving school attendance, dignity, and confidence among girls.

Working with Arizona State University’s Polytechnic School, we delivered 15 Solar Powered Educational Learning Libraries (SolarSPELL) and 70 tablets to schools in South Sudan, significantly enhancing access to digital and offline educational content for students in remote areas.

Between 2014 to 2023 EKSS has successfully sponsored 37 South Sudanese students through the Bridge2Rwanda university preparation program, enabling them to secure fully funded scholarships at renowned international universities, including Harvard, Stanford, Columbia, and Arizona State University.

In partnership with ASU’s Mary Lou Fulton Teachers College, we provided 21st century teacher training to 15 secondary school teachers in 2015, improving the quality of education and introducing modern teaching techniques in classrooms.

We have organized Peace Essay Writing Contests in 40 secondary schools across Eastern and Central Equatoria States from 2015 to 2018, recognizing 394 students for their essays and engaging 120 teachers as evaluators, strengthening critical thinking, communication, and peacebuilding values.

EmpowerKids-South Sudan installed solar electricity at Nimule Model Secondary School and Juba Girls Secondary School, powering essential facilities such as science labs and water systems and creating sustainable, inclusive learning environments that support academic performance.

Empower Farmers South Sudan Program's Piloting Impact (2025):

  • A dynamic team of 21 staff, field champions, and program interns actively manage the Juba Demonstration Farm, leading farmer training, data collection, and implementation of sustainable farming innovations that enhance productivity and community resilience.

  • Trained 54 smallholder farmers & program interns in the Foundations for Farming (FfF) principles, equipping them with practical conservation agriculture skills to improve soil health, increase yields, and enhance climate resilience.

  • Achieved a maize yield of 472.44 kg from 0.132 ha (1,320 m²) and harvested 632.97 kg of assorted vegetables and groundnuts from 0.01865 ha (186.5 m²), demonstrating strong productivity from smallholder plots under the conservation agriculture model.

  • Established a 50 m × 100 m Demonstration Farm at Juba 2, Gumbo-Sherikat, Juba, South Sudan, serving as a model site for farmer training, conservation agriculture, and youth engagement.

  • Champions and interns achieved great success through innovative field experiments employing natural pest control methods such as wood ash, red pepper, and tobacco extracts. These eco-friendly practices significantly reduced fall armyworm infestations, demonstrating a sustainable and low-cost breakthrough in pest management for smallholder farmers.

  • Champions and interns successfully cultivated eggplants and tomatoes in sacks, showcasing an innovative, space-efficient method that enables smallholder farmers to grow nutritious crops and improve household food security.
